Who is Defence R&D Canada – Ottawa?

DRDC Ottawa is one of six research centres of Defence R&D Canada, an agency of Canada's Department of National Defence. Located on the western outskirts of Ottawa, Ontario, DRDC Ottawa performs advanced scientific research in a number of key defence technology areas such as electronic warfare; space communication and surveillance, terrestrial radio and wireless communications, navigation, advanced radar, radiological effects and sensing, information operations and network security.

Can I tour the DRDC Ottawa facilities?

Both civil and military foreign visitors, from either the public or private sector, must make a formal request for visit clearance through appropriate channels and must have obtained the requisite authorizations before the visit. Defence R&D Canada – Ottawa is a controlled-access laboratory of Defence R&D Canadian agency of the Department of National Defence. Visitors must comply with DND security requirements.

YES. DRDC Ottawa’s wealth of expertise; the strength of its scientific & technological personnel; and, its possession of unique facilities, positions it well for engaging in collaborative ventures with both the private and other public sectors. Such ventures may include: contributions in-kind towards a common objective; joint applications for external funding from national and international granting agencies; shared cost initiatives in pursuing a common R&D objective; and, exchange(s) of personnel at the cost of the parent employer.
